Optical Coherence Tomography, or 'OCT', is a technology for non-invasively obtaining sub-surface images of translucent or opaque materials at a resolution equivalent to a low-power microscope. It is effectively 'optical ultrasound', imaging reflections from within tissue to provide cross-sectional images. With this new technology, your doctor has the ability to accurately measure parts of the eye including the Optic Nerve. This gives your doctor the capability of early detection and treatment of eye conditions such as, Macular Swelling, Macular Holes, and even Optic Nerve Damage.
